Block-C Essential Question: What methods are there for comparing thingBig Idea:Many important practical and mathematical applications involve comparing quantities of one kind or another; it is important to know which method to use and how we should use them.
Notes
Ratio
1 cup concentrate
4 cups of water 1 cup: 4 cups = Part : Part ratio
1 cup concentrate
5 cups drink 1 cup: 5 drinks = Part : whole ratio
1 part of cocoa = 4 4 x 20 = 80 grams
Percentage
100 = per-cent ex. 79% or .79 or 79/100 = no difference
Proportion
3/16 = x/100 multiply 3 with 100 and 16 with x = 3 x 100= 300, 16 times x = 16
300 divided by 16 = 18.65
1.1 & F.U.
A. Describe what you think each 4 statements means. Explain how each shows a comparison. Be sure to tell what is being compared and how it is being compared.
I think the first statement meant that out of 5 people 3 people like Bolda Cola and 2 people like Cola Nola. So they simplified the no.'s into something much clear. So if you take 500 people 300 people would like Bolda Cola and 200 people would like Cola Nola. The ratio has been the comparison and the result is how it is compared. ( Ratio)
In this statement it totally shows the exact result from the tests the people took. Its show that how big the difference was (Bolda Cola won) between the 2 brands. The ratio was the comparison and the result how it as compared. (Ratio)
This statement showed how much bolda cola won from. It was a advantage for the brand Bolda Cola because in this statement it only showed how much they won from. The difference was the comparison and if you subtract the ration in the 2nd statement you get how it was compared. (difference)
The 4th and final statement told us how much percent bolda cola had and how percentage was left over for cola nola. They added the results for both the brands and then they took bolda cola's results and divided it by the no. they got after adding the 2 brands results. The comparison was percentage. (Percentage)
B. Is it possible that all 4 advertising claims are based on the same data?WHY?
Ans- Yes this is possible that all 4 statements are based on the same survey. If you take the 2nd statement results and subtract = 17139-11426= 5713 which is stated in the 3rd statement and if you add 17139 + 11426= 28565/17139 = .6= 60%. 60% was stated in the 4th statement. ----
C. Which comparison do you think is the most accurate what to report the survey data?WHY?
Ans- The most accurate information would be the 2nd statement because it gives the exact results in the taste tests.
D. Which comparison do you think would be the most effective advertisement for Bolda Cola?WHY?
Ans. The most effective information to the people would be the 3rd statement because it is telling the difference and its win over Cola Nola. (5713)
F.U
Write 2 or more statements comparing the popularity of the 2 colas. Explain each statement you write.
1. Out of 10 people 60% people liked Pepsi and and 40% liked diet coke.
2. The results are 6:4. Guess who won? Pepsi has won by a ratio of 6:4.
